Baghdad, March 21 (QNA) - The Iraqi Ministry of Electricity announced today the start of the electrical connection process with Jordan in the coming days.

Ministry Spokesman Ahmed Musa said that the electrical connection with Jordan will commence in the upcoming days after reaching 100 percent readiness, explaining that the first phase will be in the Rutba district, west of Anbar.

He noted that the electrical connection between Iraq and the Gulf states will be completed within 10 months, emphasizing the country's authorities' commitment to pressuring the project's timeline to be completed by the end of this year.

Musa also indicated that next summer will be reassuring and positive if the conditions of gas and fuel are available, and that the stability of the electrical system at present comes with the completion of maintenance on generating units, as well as the introduction of new units into the system.

The GCC-Iraq Electrical Interconnection Project, funded by both the Qatar Development Fund and the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development, scheduled to be completed by the end of 2024, is the first of its kind being implemented outside the GCC electrical system. It will work to meet part of the demand for electrical energy in southern Iraq by approximately 500 megawatts per hour. (QNA)
